Road work planned for SR 252, I-65 starting this weekend

Two upcoming road work projects will affect roads frequented by local drivers.

On Friday, Indiana Department of Transportation contractor HIS Constructors will conduct an overnight closure to switch traffic at the State Road 252 bridge over West Fork Crooked Creek in Morgan County. The bridge is located just over a mile west of State Road 135 near Morgantown, according to an INDOT construction update.

State Road 252 will close at the bridge from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday. Motorists will then use the eastbound lane for travel, controlled by temporary traffic signals, INDOT officials say.

The bridge replacement project is expected to be completed this fall.

Starting on or after next Monday, June 19, another INDOT contractor plans to begin asphalt and concrete patching on Interstate 65 in Johnson County. MAC Construction plans to implement various lane closures between State Road 252 near Edinburgh, Exit 80, and Franklin, Exit 90, while work is in progress, according to INDOT.

Once work begins, asphalt patching will take place overnight from approximately 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Crews will begin work in the southbound lanes, officials say.

Concrete patching will take place over a number of weekends starting in late June and wrapping up in early August, weather permitting. Motorists should expect around-the-clock lane closures during these times to allow patches to cure, according to INDOT.

Concrete patching on I-65 southbound is expected to begin as follows, weather permitting:

  • 10 p.m. June 23 to 6 a.m. June 26
  • 10 p.m. July 7 to 6 a.m. July 10
  • 10 p.m. July 28 to 6 a.m. July 31

Concrete patching on the northbound lanes is expected to begin as follows, weather permitting:

  • 11 p.m. Aug. 4 to 6 a.m. Aug. 7

INDOT officials ask drivers to slow down, use extra caution and avoid distractions when traveling through construction zones.
