Franklin native earns Army command promotion

A Franklin native has been named the new commander of the U.S. Army’s Joint Munitions Command

Col. Ronnie D. Anderson Jr. took the reins during a change of command ceremony on June 1 at Memorial Park on the Rock Island Arsenal. He takes over command from Col. Landis C. Maddox.

“I have had an amazing circle of advisors, colleagues, and mentors,” Anderson said in a statement. “As I look toward the future as the leader of (Joint Munitions Command), I am humbled by the extraordinary talent across the command and the accomplishments from the entire organization.

“Today is an azimuth check to make sure we’re on track moving forward. We must stay focused on our priorities of people, readiness, and modernization.”

Gen. Charles R. Hamilton, the commanding general of the Army Material Command, officiated the event.

“His distinguished career has prepared him well for this moment,” Hamilton said in a statement.

Anderson, the 14th commander of the Joint Munitions Command, has served in the military for the last 31 years. He was born and raised in Franklin, and was commissioned as an ordnance officer from Purdue University in 1996.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial management from Purdue, a master’s degree in logistics management from the Florida Institute of Technology, and a master’s degree in strategic studies from the Marine Corps University.

Joint Munitions Command provides the joint forces with ready, reliable, and lethal munitions at the speed of war, sustaining global readiness, according to an Army press release. The command is the logistics integrator for life-cycle management of ammunition and provides a global presence of technical support to combat units wherever they are stationed or deployed.
