Randy Dean Nichols

GREENWOOD

Randy Dean Nichols, 66, of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away on April 24, 2023 in Prescott, Arizona after a battle with leukemia.

Randy was born on October 20, 1956 to William Royce Nichols and Betty Lou Hall Nichols in Amarillo, Texas. He grew up in a military family and moved around the country to various places including Puerto Rico where he really enjoyed the time he spent there. He graduated from Forest Park High School in Beaumont, Texas in 1974. While in high school he was a member of the Civil Air Patrol in Beaumont and really enjoyed his time while being a member. After graduating he served in the United States Air Force as a computer programmer. He married Debra Anne Finster in 1975.

After serving in the military, he moved his family to Amarillo, Texas where he worked as a computer programmer and data analyst at Western Data, Santa Fe Energy, Taylor Software, Tascosa Software Services and Cactus Feeders. He moved to Greenwood, Indiana in 1999 to work for Eli Lilly Pharmaceuticals. He worked at Eli Lilly for 24 years before retiring in 2022.

He had two children, Jessica and Eric. He was a great father and taught his kids to love Christ, family, and others. Randy loved his grandkids and took a lot of interest in their accomplishments. Talking about his grandkids and spending time with them brought him great joy.

He was a member of Aletheia Church in Indianapolis, Indiana for 23 years. He served as a Sunday School teacher, a deacon, and recently as an elder. He loved teaching others about Christ, and he was excited to teach his Sunday School class every week. Prior to living in Greenwood he was a longtime member of Lifeway Fellowship in Amarillo, Texas serving as a deacon, treasurer and Sunday school teacher.

Randy loved genealogy and researching his family’s history. He enjoyed learning about previous generations and traveling to places where they had lived.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents Royce and Betty.

Randy is survived by his daughter, Jessica Boyd and husband Jackie of Chino Valley, Arizona; his son Eric Nichols and wife Jennifer of Anna, Texas; eight grandchildren: Anna Boyd, Gabriel Boyd, Katrina Boyd, Noah Boyd, Joseph Boyd, Priscilla Boyd, Samuel Nichols, and Jack Nichols; his brother Monty Nichols; his sister Tina McCaslin and husband Jim, and nieces Kateryna and Kayleigh McCaslin

Celebration of Life Service will be held at Llano Cemetery on July 28, 2023 at 10 a.m. in Amarillo, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Alzheimer’s Society in Randy’s name.
