Betty L. (Fleener) Cox, passed away at home with family by her side, on Friday morning, June 16, 2023, her 85th birthday. She was a resident of Greenwood and a former resident of Brown County.

Betty was born June 16, 1938 in Brown County, to her parents, the late Guy and Shirley (Schoolcraft) Fleener. She was a 1956 graduate of Helmsburg High School where she participated in the Marching Band as a Majorette and played the French horn. Betty also enjoyed roller skating with her classmates. She went on to attend Indiana Business College in Indianapolis.

Betty retired in 2003 from the Plainfield Correctional Facility where she served as a Corrections Officer for 15 years. She was a past member of the Franklin Church of Christ. Betty enjoyed crocheting, playing euchre and spending time with her family. She will be remembered for her volunteerism and her homemade booties and bonnets that she provided for preemies at various hospital NICU units in central Indiana.

Betty is survived by her children, Wendel Joe Cox II of Leesville, Debra “Feather-Byahe” Sebree of Bloomington & Sherry (Mike) DeWald of Florida; brother, Lester Fleener of Kentucky; grandchildren, Keenan and Callie Connor of California and New Jersey respectively, Amanda White of Springville, Allissa Chambers of Columbus, Megan (Andrew) Hersha and Ashlee (Jay) Rivera of Valrico, FL & Brett (Jess) Cox of Greenwood; 11 great grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Daryll Leon Connor; siblings, Guy ‘Junior’ Fleener, Kenneth Fleener & Freida Wagerman.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday June 20 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Bear Creek Cemetery in Brown County.
