I-465 eastbound lanes reopen this week

Major traffic thruways will reopen on Interstate 465 this week.

The eastbound lanes of I-465 between Interstate 65 and Interstate 70 on the southwest side of Indianapolis are expected to reopen before Thursday morning’s rush hour. The lanes, and adjacent ramps, have been closed since the first weekend of June. Ramps closed for construction include:

• I-70 East and West to I-465 South and East;

• Kentucky Avenue/State Road 67 to and from I-465 East;

• Mann Road to I-465 East;

• Harding Street/State Road 37 to and from I-465 East;

• East Street/U.S. 31 to and from I-465 East.

Workers will reopen those ramps this week, starting at I-65 and going west to I-70. All ramps will reopen before Thursday morning, according to a weekly construction update from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Until then, the official detour follows I-70 East to Interstate 65 at the South Split, which may slow traffic during peak hours. On or after July 7, construction crews will close I-465 westbound lanes and ramps between I-65 and I-70. The construction work is needed to widen I-465 in preparation for the completion of Interstate 69 next year, INDOT officials say.

Construction crews are also continuing work near I-69 this week. Old State Road 37/Waverly Park Road access to State Road 144 is expected to reopen this week near the County Road 144 interchange with I-69.

In Marion County, Belmont Avenue is closed to through traffic between Banta Road and Epler Avenue. People will be able to access businesses south of the closure on Belmont Avenue via Banta Road, and can access businesses north of the closure point via Epler Avenue. Belmont Avenue will remain closed until it’s realigned in 2024, INDOT officials say.
