Franklin man convicted on domestic battery charge

A Franklin man has been convicted of battering a juvenile during a 2022 incident.

Kurtis Tishner, 38, was found guilty of domestic battery on a person less than 14 years old, a Level 6 felony, by a jury in Johnson County Superior Court 3 Tuesday. The charges stem from an incident occurring in August 2022, when Tishner shoved the juvenile victim, prompting police response, according to a Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office news release.

After a brief deliberation, the jury returned a unanimous verdict of guilty. Tishner was remanded into custody thereafter, and sentencing is set for July 13, the news release says.

Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys Brianna Acker and Brittany Carroll presented the case to the jury. Johnson County Prosecutor Lance Hamner said in a statement that he was pleased with the verdict.

“Our mission is to protect our citizens from the criminal behavior of individuals who choose not to play by the rules of society,” Hamner said. “Upon conviction, Judge Cummins immediately sent the defendant to jail. While I wish the defendant no ill will, I hope this experience teaches him that this type of behavior will not be tolerated.”
