Shawn Cort Kegley

INDIANAPOLIS

Shawn Cort Kegley, 66, passed away June 26, 2023. He was a resident of Indianapolis.

Shawn was born on September 26, 1956 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Cort L. Kegley and Josephine E. (Smith) Kegley.

He is survived by his sister, Shannon Kegley Wood (fiancé Dr. Paul H. Gray) and brother, Boyd F. Kegley. He is preceded in passing by his parents, Cort and Josephine and his grandparents.

Shawn attended Franklin Community High School and Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana.

Like his father, who was a pilot, Shawn was also an aviator and did some flight instructing. He was an airplane troubleshooter. Shawn had over 10,000 hours of flight time, including piloting King Air and jet fuelers and transporting passengers. He dropped recreational parachuters and cargo with parachutes from airplanes in the Chicago area. He also ferried over 200 airplanes that needed to be moved from state to state, nationwide.

In his younger days, before coming a pilot, he was a building contractor where he renovated buildings, fixed courthouse clocks, and built highway salt domes.

Shawn truly felt that aviation enabled him to meet the nicest people in the world, other pilots and passengers alike.

He was a member of the Aerobatics-National Category for the US Aerobatics Club.

Shawn loved to hike and bike in the mountains with his two dogs, Elsa and Zipper.

Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, June 30, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Inurnment will be at a later time in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, Indiana.
