A fast-moving, severely damaging line of thunderstorms, has knocked down trees and caused power outages across Johnson County Thursday.
Multiple police and law enforcement agencies are reporting downed lines and damaged power poles across the county. A number of accidents have also been reported, along with reports of trees blocking roads.
JCREMC is reporting over 4,026 outages or about 13% of the utility’s customers as of 4:45 p.m. Thursday. Outages are reported for nearly all of the electric cooperative’s districts.
At least 5,000 Duke Energy outages have been reported across Johnson County so far. Areas include Franklin, Whiteland and Greenwood.
Over 137,00 Duke Energy outages have been across Indiana so far, with nearly 60,000 reported in western Indiana, the map shows.
An update on Duke’s website says severe storms and high winds have already caused extensive damage and widespread power outages across the state.
“As the storms weaken this evening, crews will begin making repairs and assessing damage where conditions allow,” the message says. “An unsettled weather pattern is forecast for the area over the next several days that could generate additional outage activity into the weekend. We greatly appreciate your patience while our crews begin the process of restoring service.”
Both Freedom Springs Aquatic Park in Greenwood and the Franklin Family Aquatic Center have closed for the day due to the storms.
Festival Country Indiana’s planned Historical Walking Tour in downtown Franklin has also been canceled.
