The westbound lanes of Interstate 465 on Indianapolis’ southwest side will close Friday.
The closure between Interstate 65 and Interstate 70 follows the closure and reopening of the same stretch along I-465 East last month. Following the evening rush hour Friday, construction crews will close westbound I-465 ramps and lanes, with reopening expected July 29, according to a weekly construction update from the Indiana Department of Transportation.
The closure will allow workers to improve drainage structures, refurbish pavement and perform bridge maintenance. It will affect the following ramps:
- I-65 to I-465 westbound
- U.S. 31/East Street to I-465 westbound
- Harding Street/State Road 37 to I-465 westbound
- Kentucky Avenue/State Road 67 to I-465 westbound
The official detour for the I-465 closure follows I-65 northbound to I-70 westbound at the South Split, INDOT officials say.
Daytime single-lane and nightly double-lane restrictions are expected for the eastbound lanes of I-465 during the duration of the westbound closure. Drivers on I-465 should watch for large trucks and equipment entering and exiting the work zone, which will also cause 20-minute stoppages at Harding Street, Bluff Road and Meridian Street, INDOT officials say.
In Johnson and Morgan counties, workers will switch southbound State Road 37 traffic onto permanent pavement and striping from Smith Valley Road to Banta Road after the July 4 holiday, INDOT officials say.
