Following up on leads from the public, Indiana State Police arrested the person who is suspected of shooting at another vehicle on Interstate 65 last week.
Ladon Jenkins, 19, of Indianapolis, was arrested Monday on the preliminary charges of Attempted Murder and Aggravated Battery.
The incident occurred just after 7:30 p.m. on June 29, when ISP dispatchers received a 911 call reporting a man had been shot inside a vehicle. First responders arrived and found the victim a short time later near I-65 and Southport Road and found an adult male with a serious injury consistent with a gunshot wound, according to a press release from ISP.
The Indianapolis Fire Department responded and provided emergency medical aid. The man was conscious and alert when he was transported by Indianapolis EMS to an area hospital, the release says.
ISP detectives believe, preliminarily, that a road rage incident began on I-65 southbound near Southport Road leading to a person inside a vehicle pulling alongside the victim’s silver Honda and firing multiple shots into the vehicle. At least one of those bullets struck and seriously injured the driver of the Honda. The suspect vehicle then fled the area before police arrived, ISP officials say.
Since then, detectives have worked tirelessly following leads and examining evidence, which led them to Jenkins, ISP officials say. ISP had asked the public to give eyewitness accounts and submit video footage their dash cameras might have caught while driving through the area.
The charges listed are probable cause to hold Jenkins in jail until formal charges are filed by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. He is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
