ISP warns of fake GoFundMe for fallen Trooper Smith

Indiana State Police officials are warning of a fake GoFundMe fundraiser circulating claiming to benefit Trooper Aaron Smith.

In a tweet Wednesday morning, ISP Indianapolis Post spokesperson Sgt. John Perrine said the agency was notified about the false GoFundMe page. Calling it a scam, Perrine said there are not any GoFundMe pages or other contribution websites set up to benefit Smith’s family.

The official memorial fund for Smith is at Indiana Members Credit Union.Donations can be made to the “Aaron Smith Memorial Fund” at any IMCU branch or through the Indiana Fallen Heroes Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization at http://bit.ly/3rdZiWi.

Contributions can also be made directly to the Indiana Fallen Heroes Foundation at: Indiana Fallen Heroes Foundation, Inc., 1710 S. 10th St., Noblesville, IN 46060.

Smith, 33, died in the line of duty last week after police say a Missouri man intentionally veered into the lane where he was deploying stop sticks to strike him during a police pursuit on Ronald Reagan Parkway in Hendricks County.

His visitation is set to take place on Thursday, with the funeral, procession and burial set for Friday. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.swartzmortuary.com.
