Charges dismissed for man, woman in local courts

Editor’s note: The Daily Journal previously reported about this incident and has written this update to clear the record. All persons in crime stories are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Two people facing criminal charges in local courts have had charges dismissed in their respective cases.

Johnson County Circuit Court Judge Andrew Roesener granted a request filed by the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office on May 17 to dismiss charges filed against Trey O. Marciniak, 19, of Kokomo. Marciniak was charged in June 2022 with sexual misconduct with a minor and child exploitation, both Level 5 felonies.

In a separate case, a misdemeanor charge of false informing filed against Miranda D. Lawson, 19, of Morgantown, was dismissed by Johnson County Superior Court 3 Judge Douglas Cummins on July 6. Prosecutors moved to dismiss Lawson’s case on July 5 after they objected to a plea agreement that was filed, according to online court records.

Lawson had been charged in connection with a non-fatal shooting that occurred last year in Morgantown.

On Aug. 7, the Johnson County Public Safety Communications Center received a call that a person had been shot multiple times at a home on the 6700 block of S. County Road 800 West in Morgantown and that those involved had already left the scene: allegedly Lawson and Nicholas Robert Saunders, 19, of Elizabethtown.

Saunders, who prosecutors say was the gunman, is charged with attempted murder, a Level 1 felony; aggravated battery, a Level 3 felony; and two counts of pointing a firearm at another, a Level 6 felony. His case is still pending.
