Investigation underway after plane slides off runway at Greenwood airport

Federal officials are investigating after a small aircraft ran off the runway at Indy South Greenwood Airport Wednesday night.

First responders were called to the airport, 897 Airport Parkway, for an aircraft problem around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday. Preliminarily, federal investigators say a small plane, a single-engine Cessna 172, lost control while landing and slid off the runway into a creek.

No injuries were reported, and only the pilot was onboard. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating, said Tony Molinaro, an FAA spokesperson.

The Cessna 172 is registered to the Bradley Aircraft Company of Columbus and was manufactured in 1976.

The crash remains under investigation, and a preliminary accident/incident report is expected to be released in the next few days, Molinaro said. The amount of damage to the plane is currently unknown.
