WHITELAND, INDIANA
David Leon Barnes, 81, of Whiteland, Indiana passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.
David was born in Vevay, Indiana on August 10, 1941 to the late Elvin and Bernita (Hickman) Barnes.
David served proudly in the United States Army and the National Guard. He graduated from Vevay High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Purdue University. He began working for Eli Lilly and Company in 1978 and retired in 2006. David grew up a farm boy and watching sports.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Aaron Barnes; brother, Claire Barnes.
David is survived by his wife of 44 years, Patricia Barnes of Whiteland, IN; children, Greg Huth and his wife, Dawn of Whiteland, IN; Patrick Barnes and his wife, Julie of Whiteland, IN; grandchildren, Blake Huth, Tyler Huth, Jacob Huth, Kate Barnes, and Jack Barnes; siblings, Gerald Barnes and his wife, Debby of Dupont, IN; Galen Barnes and his wife, Anne of Columbus, OH; Janet Otter of Florence, KY; Kathryn Beach and her husband, James of North Vernon, IN; several nieces and nephews; three bonus sons from afar, foreign exchange students: Christian (Denmark), Jens (Norway), and Robert (Sweden).
Services will be 11 A.M. on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at Jessen Funeral Home &Simple Cremation ~ Whiteland Chapel. Entombment with military honors will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Greenwood, Indiana.
Visitation will be held from 4 P.M. until 8 P.M. on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 and again from 10 A.M. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Riley Children’s Hospital.
