Police departments plan National Night Out events

Five local police departments will host National Night Out programs to connect police officers with residents next week.

The Clark-Pleasant, Edinburgh, Greenwood, New Whiteland and Whiteland police departments are among the 77 Indiana departments expected to take part in the annual National Night Out on Tuesday. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign designed to promote police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie, according to their website.

All the events are free and open to the public:

Clark-Pleasant and Whiteland

The Clark-Pleasant and Whiteland police event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday on the north side of the football field at Whiteland Community High School, 300 E. Main St.

The departments say their event will feature food and fun, and community members will have the option to take selfies with Sally, one of CPPD’s K9s. They are also offering free car seat checks for any parents, grandparents or caregivers who need it, according to a Facebook post.

New Whiteland

New Whiteland Police and the town of New Whiteland are joining forces for their event this year, which will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at East Park, 300 Ballpark Drive.

Local vendors, a DJ, a K9 demonstration and other activities are planned. Food and beverages will also be available, a NWPD Facebook post says.

Edinburgh

The Edinburgh Police Department’s event will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Parks and Recreation Shelter House, 722 S. Eisenhower Drive.

Their event will feature free food and drinks and opportunities to meet members of the police and fire departments. Edinburgh Police will also show off their drone program and police K9s. Fire trucks may also be on display, according to an EPD Facebook post.

Greenwood

Greenwood Police will be hosting an event from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Greenwood Amphitheater, 300 S. Washington St.

Officials encourage the public to “bring a chair and enjoy the activities” at the amphitheater.
