Organization needs volunteers to build beds for children Saturday

This Saturday, the community is invited to help ensure that all children have a bed to sleep in.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to building and delivering hand-made, fully furnished beds to children in need, has partnered with Lowes, 2219 N. Morton St., Franklin, to build 20 twin beds. Those beds will be delivered to local children free of charge.

The event is part of the organization’s “No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town” campaign. The building starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, and people can register online at bit.ly/shpevent.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace’s mission is to tackle childhood bedlessness, which is estimated to affect 3% of the population. Over the past two years, the local chapter has delivered 300 beds in the area, and over 140,000 over the past 10 years.
