Girls golf

Trojans take first in Franklin

Third-ranked Center Grove had all five players break 80 Saturday on the way to a first-place finish in the 21-team Franklin Invitational at The Legends. Lexi Stuart and Camille Short each shot 76 for the Trojans, followed by Magnolia Miller (77), Ellie Adkisson (78) and Rowen Pfeifle. The No. 11 Grizzly Cubs were third with a 325 total, paced by 77s from Lexi Ray and Addie Livorno. Addi Bright (85) and Reese Phillips (86) rounded out the scoring for the host squad.

Whiteland placed 12th with a 395, led by Chloe Cooper (91) and Kylie McGovern (95). Izzy Richardson shot a 98 to lead Edinburgh, which finished 21st.

Elsewhere, Center Grove’s White team was fifth at the Zionsville Invitational, led by an 84 from Amanda Wallace.

Cross country

Jackson seventh, Franklin girls 10th

Whiteland senior Victoria Jackson posted a time of 19:44 to finish seventh individually at the Valley Kickoff meet in Terre Haute on Saturday. Jackson’s effort helped the Warriors — who also got strong finishes from Lena Shipp (31st) and Bella Fuentes (33rd) — end up 12th among the 35 teams in the field.

Kathleen Lacy was 28th overall to help Franklin’s girls finish 10th. Also scoring for the Grizzly Cubs were Lauren Klem (51st), Ava Ott (75th), Emma Small (85th) and Hannah Lindsay (87th).

Whiteland’s boys were 18th out of 39 teams, paced by William Watson (63rd) and Nolan Edens (68th).

Woodmen defeat Olympians

Greenwood swept the three singles points on the way to a 4-1 win over Columbus East. Noah Paswater, Carter Chatham and Ian Ratliff were all victorious in straight sets, as was the No. 1 doubles team of Brayden Holman and Will Davidson.

Center Grove sweeps Grizzly Cubs

Center Grove got its season started with a 5-0 triumph over Franklin on Saturday.

Warriors fall to Orioles

Despite taking all three singles matches to three sets, Whiteland came up on the short end of a 5-0 score against Avon.

Boys soccer

Trojans rout Royals in opener

Ely Detty and Matheus Gubert scored three goals apiece as Class 3A No. 17 Center Grove opened its season with a 8-0 shellacking of Roncalli on Saturday. Cameron Kraiger and Cooper Worley added goals for the Trojans, while Detty, Owen Kalmas and Landon Gilstorf each had two assists.

Girls soccer

Cougars edged by Mustangs

Izzy Cameron scored once and assisted on a Norah Herndon tally, but Greenwood Christian fell just short in its opening match, taking a 3-2 loss at Edgewood on Saturday morning.

Center Grove blanked by East Central

Class 3A No. 8 Center Grove received a rude awakening in its season opener, dropping a 5-0 home match against 12th-ranked East Central.

Volleyball

Lancers win one of three

Opening its season in a tournament at Morristown, Edinburgh defeated Eastern Hancock 26-24, 25-22 but took losses to Northeastern and the host Yellow Jackets. Jessica Walsh had 23 kills on the day for the Lancers (1-2), while Kenna Streeval pulled up 54 digs and Kyah Streeval had 65 assists.
