Smith Valley Road interchange on I-69 to open

The Smith Valley Road Interstate 69 interchange will partially open Wednesday, and the interchange will fully open later this year.

The partial opening includes the Smith Valley Road bridge over State Road 37, the southbound State Road 37 entrance and exit ramps and the Smith Valley Road/Mullinix Road roundabout east of State Road 37, according to a weekly update from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Paving activities are expected this week near the State Road 144 roundabout at Huggin Hollow Road and Old State Road 37. Elsewhere on I-69/State Road 37, drivers should watch for construction crews in northern Morgan and Johnson counties as they install fencing, cable barriers and conduits, INDOT officials say.

In Marion County, the Mann Road exit ramp to eastbound Interstate 465 is closed for up to two months as crews construct retaining walls and improve Thompson Road for new I-465 travel lanes. Drivers can use Kentucky Avenue to get to I-465 during the closure. Nightly single-lane closures on east and westbound I-465 will continue from Kentucky Avenue to U.S. 31 as crews install signage, lighting and drainage structures throughout the work zone, INDOT officials say.

EDITOR’S NOTE: An earlier version of this brief said the interchange would open Tuesday, but the brief was updated after INDOT announced the opening was pushed back due to the weather on social media.
