SBA offers disaster response class for nonprofits, businesses

The U.S. Small Business Administration, or SBA, Central Indiana Small Business Development Center, or ISBDC, and the Indiana Chamber Executive Association are offering Indiana businesses and stakeholders a free webinar on resiliency training to help businesses before, during and after disasters. Entrepreneurs in the disaster area, regardless of damage, are encouraged to attend on Sept. 7, at 10 a.m.

The webinar will highlight working capital funds from the SBA available in the form of Economic Injury Disaster Loans, or EIDLs, which are available in 57 counties in Indiana and surrounding states. Those attending will also learn about free classes on resiliency and other assistance from the Central ISBDC and other federal, state and local agencies, according to a press release from SBA.

The Central ISBDC offers training courses to ensure business owners and stakeholders have the tools necessary to recover from disasters. Discussions will include business continuity planning, disaster preparation, and mitigation, SBA officials say.

Attendees should register in advance at https://isbdc.ecenterdirect.com/events/16414. Classes are free but capacity is limited, SBA officials say.

Small businesses and most private non-profit organizations in the following counties are eligible to apply for working capital disaster loans from the SBA: Adams, Allen, Bartholomew, Benton, Blackford, Boone, Brown, Carroll, Cass, Clay, Clinton, DeKalb, Delaware, Grant, Greene, Hamilton, Hendricks, Howard, Huntington, Jackson, Jasper, Johnson, Knox, Lake, Lawrence, Madison, Marion, Miami, Monroe, Montgomery, Morgan, Newton, Noble, Owen, Porter, Pulaski, Putnam, Shelby, Sullivan, Tippecanoe, Tipton, Vigo, Wabash, Warren, Wells, White and Whitley in Indiana; Clark, Cook, Crawford, Iroquois, Kankakee, Vermillion and Will in Illinois; and Defiance, Paulding and Van Wert in Ohio.
