UIndy offering free, online course to community

The University of Indianapolis is offering a free, online, book club-style course, Communiversity, to students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members, with the option to earn one college credit hour. This year’s course will focus on the themes of the novel “Middlemarch” by George Eliot, which celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2022.

Communiversity takes place throughout the fall semester — which is Aug. 28 through Dec. 16 — and will include weekly readings and online discussions, plus occasional lectures presented by UIndy faculty and external scholars to discuss “Middlemarch,” and more thoroughly explore the many themes within the text.

Community members wishing to participate can register for free. Communiversity begins Aug. 28, but registration will remain open until Sept. 1.

Participants do not need to be enrolled students at UIndy, but must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Registering for the course allows access to the online discussion forum and other course materials. Participants can earn one college credit by posting and replying weekly in the online discussion forum.
