Local first responders returning home from Hawaii mission

Three local firefighters are returning home from Maui following a trip to assist in rescue and recovery efforts following deadly wildfires.

Bargersville Fire Deputy Chief Mike Pruitt, Greenwood Fire Lt. Justin Laraway and White River Township Engineer Paramedic Mike Combs were among the roughly 70 Indiana Task Force One members who aided Hawaiian firefighters in the aftermath of the wildfires that engulfed the historic city of Lahaina and outlaying areas Maui.

Indiana Task Force 1 is returning home Monday afternoon, after spending several days on a search and rescue mission on the island. They were part of a crew of firefighters from around the country that helped search for human remains in burned-up buildings around the city.

Pruitt and Laraway took a bit of their downtime to talk about their experience on the island in a story published in Daily Journal Friday. See more details there.
