Cross country

Trojans sweep Franklin Invitational

Center Grove’s boys and girls teams took the top spots at the Franklin Invitational on Saturday. The boys dominated a 16-team field, with Kyle Montgomery (16:29.8) and Rylan Mullins (16:44.8) finishing first and second, Curtis Williams sixth and Cameron Cox eighth. The girls were led by Marissa Pogue (fifth), Allison Cohen (seventh) and Gretchen Meisberger (seventh).

The host Grizzly Cubs were second in the girls race, with Lauren Klem fourth individually; Franklin’s boys finished ninth. Indian Creek’s girls, paced by individual winner Libby Dowty, took third as a team, while the boys placed fourth. Third-place efforts from Sam Grimes and Lilly Rollings helped the Greenwood boys and girls land in fifth.

Warrior girls second, boys fourth

Whiteland competed at Mt. Vernon on Saturday, with the girls placing second out of five teams and the boys finishing fourth of eight. Tori Jackson was the individual winner of the girls race in a time of 19:29, with Lena Shipp crossing the line in eighth. The boys got a ninth-place effort from William Watson.

Trojans fourth at HOF Classic

In a stacked event featuring 19 of the state’s top 20 teams at The Legends, third-ranked Center Grove finished fourth at Saturday’s Hall of Fame Classic with a team score of 308. Rowen Pfeifle led a balance Trojan lineup with a 76, while Camille Short and Ellie Adkisson each shot 77 and Lexi Stuart carded a 78. Maren Pfeifle shot 77 while competing as an individual.

Edinburgh competes in Columbus

Izzy Richardson shot 86 to finish sixth individually as Edinburgh played at the Columbus East Invitational on Saturday. The Lancers didn’t have enough players to post a team score.

Boys soccer

Grizzly Cubs overwhelm Hawks

Franklin earned a 5-1 victory at Decatur Central on Saturday. Jules Ebalo scored twice for the Grizzly Cubs (3-0, 2-0 Mid-State), while J.D. Sever, Cole Hufford and Matt Payne added one goal apiece.

Warriors come up short

Whiteland was defeated by Seymour on Saturday, 1-0, to fall to 2-3-1 on the season.

Volleyball

Lancers swept at tournament

Edinburgh went 0-3 at the Indian Creek Invitational, getting swept by the host Braves and losing three-setters to Martinsville and Mooresville. MacKenzie Bieker totaled 27 kills to lead the Lancers, while Kyah Streeval had 69 assists.

Boys tennis

Whiteland sweeps tourney

With shutout wins over Mississinewa and the host Pioneers, No. 26 Whiteland claimed the Mooresville Invitational on Saturday. Spencer Gillespie, Carson Baumann and Jeremiah Hurt each notched a pair of singles victories for the Warriors (6-1), while the doubles teams of Gavin Stubbe and Isaac Phegley at No. 1 and Tyler Copenhaver and Amos Hubler at No. 2 were also perfect on the day.

Braves edge Northview

Indian Creek remained unbeaten with a narrow 3-2 defeat of Northview. Peyton Strunk and Grant Dalton were victorious in the top two singles spots and the No. 1 doubles team of Trent Volz and Landon Sichting also claimed a point for the Braves (6-0, 2-0 WIC).
