Here’s what’s going on with I-69 this week

Drivers should expect traffic pattern changes as work on Interstate 69 continues.

From Wednesday through Thursday, motorists passing through Johnson County should watch out for flaggers along Smith Valley Road as crews place new sod, according to a weekly transportation update from the Indiana Department of Transportation. Earlier this month, the Smith Valley Road interchange partially opened, including the southbound ramps to and from Smith Valley Road, the Smith Valley Road bridge and the Smith Valley Road/Mullinix Road roundabout east of State Road 37.

Additionally, the right turn lane on southbound Huggin Hollow Road will be closed to allow for a new median to be installed on State Road 144. Eastbound and westbound traffic can still use Huggin Hollow Road, INDOT officials say.

On the southside, Southport Road west of State Road 37 is expected to be shifted to new lanes this week. Crews are also expected to continue nightly lane closures on Interstate 465 between Kentucky Avenue and U.S. 31 to allow for material deliveries throughout the I-465 work zone, according to INDOT.

Motorists should also be aware of possible 20-minute traffic stoppages on Bluff Road, Meridian Street, and Harding Street between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., INDOT officials say.
