Girls golf

Franklin wins conference title

Led by a 76 from medalist Lexi Ray, No. 9 Franklin successfully defended its Mid-State Conference championship on Wednesday at Foxcliff with a team score of 322. Addie Livorno (78), Addi Bright (81), Kara Heuchan (87) and Reese Phillips (88) joined Ray on the all-conference team.

Lancers clipped by Eagles

Edinburgh suffered a narrow 218-223 defeat against Brown County. Izzy Richardson was a co-medalist with a round of 40, while Macie Blandford added a 50 for the Lancers.

Shepherd poised to advance

Erica Shepherd easily survived cut day at the LPGA and Epson Tour Qualifying Tournament’s first stage, firing a 2-under 70 in Wednesday’s third round to put herself in solid position to advance. Shepherd’s three-day total of 208 (-8) is tied for 13th overall; the top 95 and ties after today’s fourth and final round will move on to Stage II.

Braves continue win streak

Unbeaten Indian Creek swept Greencastle on Wednesday, 5-0. Peyton Strunk, Grant Dalton and Aaron Spurgeon were all straight-set singles winners for the Braves (10-0, 6-0 WIC); Trent Volz and Landon Sichting were victorious at first doubles while Mason Frische and Nick Winters won in the No. 2 spot.

Grizzly Cubs throttle Hawks

Franklin had little trouble finishing a 5-0 sweep of Decatur Central, winning all five matches in straight sets. Reid Davidson, Nathan Neville and Colin Anderson took the three singles points, Brady Tucker and Tyler Jones won at No. 1 doubles and the second doubles match went to Jaxson Doddridge and Chase Alyea.

Warriors rout Hawks

Alexa LaPorte scored a pair of goals to help Whiteland cruise past Decatur Central on Wednesday, 5-1. Hailey Hillhouse, Emma Gill and Rhianna Hardy added one tally apiece for the Warriors (3-2, 1-1 Mid-State).

Miscellany

Trojans given sportsmanship award

Center Grove was one of 11 Indiana high schools to receive an IHSAA Sportsmanship Award for the 2022-23 school year. The award honors schools’ efforts to promote good sportsmanship among the members of the school community, including administrators, coaches, student-athletes, the student body, parents and fans. It is the school’s second time being honored in the award’s 20-year history, with the other coming in 2008-09.
