GCA football rallies for victory at Wes-Del

After taking it on the chin against Class A bluebloods Park Tudor and Covenant Christian in the first two weeks, Greenwood Christian faced adversity yet again on Friday when it fell behind 18-8 in the first quarter at Wes-Del.

This time, the Cougars responded, scoring 15 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to leave town with a 29-26 triumph.

“Just really happy that we got a win after two tough losses,” GCA coach Andre Dobson said. “We needed that for the program. We had to challenge the team at halftime to step up and do some things, and they responded.”

Greenwood Christian trailed 26-14 before Evan McIntire scored on an 11-yard run in the fourth and quarterback Trey Dobson added a two-point conversion. Dobson called his own number on GCA’s next series, scoring the winning TD from 21 yards out.

Nathan Goins got the Cougars on the board in the first quarter with a 1-yard scoring run. Charlie Overton kicked a pair of field goals, a 33-yarder in the second quarter and a 21-yarder in the third, to keep the visitors within striking distance before the late surge.

Trey Dobson threw for 187 yards and rushed for 59. McIntire added 77 yards on the ground and 66 on three pass receptions.
