Ohio residents arrested after shots were fired on I-65 at Worthsville Road

Two Ohio residents were arrested following a shots fired incident on Interstate 65 in Johnson County.

At around 11:17 a.m. Friday Indiana State Police Dispatchers received a 911 call about shots being fired on I-65 northbound near the 97-mile marker, which is the Worthsville Road exit in Greenwood. The victim was able to provide a good description of the suspect’s vehicle, according to a press release from Indiana State Police.

Multiple troopers to responded the area and positioned themselves to intercept the suspect vehicle. An ISP detective who ultimately apprehended the suspects happened to be on I-65 in an unmarked vehicle near the location of the call. He was in the right place at the right time, the news release says.

The detective located the vehicle, a white Nissan, on I-65 northbound at the 107-mile marker, which is for Keystone Avenue on the southside of Indianapolis. The detective followed the vehicle until other troopers caught up and together they pulled over the suspect, the release says.

Both the driver and a passenger in the Nissan were taken into custody, the release says.

After the preliminary investigation, police believe the driver fired shots at the occupants of a Suburu while driving on I-65. There were no injuries reported however investigators located damage consistent with bullet holes in the victim’s vehicle, the release says.

Investigators requested and were granted a search warrant for the suspect’s vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed a handgun and marijuana, the release says.

The driver, who was identified as Nasier Johnson, 24 of Lorain, Ohio, was arrested on the preliminary charges of criminal recklessness, intimidation and possession of marijuana. The passenger, Armani Crooks, 20 of Lorain, Ohio, was arrested on a preliminary charge of possession of marijuana.

Both suspects were transported to the Johnson County Jail.

Actual charges will be determined by the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office following a review of the case.
