COLUMBUS
Barbara “Joyce” Essex Andrews, 91, of Columbus, IN, passed from the arms of her loving family into the arms of her savior on Sunday, Sept 10, 2023.
Joyce was born February 7, 1932 in Birmingham, Alabama, to Emmette and Robert Essex.
After graduating from Columbus High School, she attended Butler University. She was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught school in Columbus and loved all children.
She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Bociant, and Bridge Club. She loved playing cards, reading and shopping, but most of all spending time with her family and friends.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Carolyn (Dana) Stickans of Columbus, Ginny (Mike) Floren of Trafalgar and Lori (Sheldon) Sorensen of Cologne, Minnesota; her 14 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Bill Andrews, her devoted husband of 57 years; her parents; and sister, Alice Jean Owens.
The funeral service celebrating her life will be held Friday, September 15 at 10 a.m. at Myers Reed Chapel 3729 25th Street at with Pastor Nick Robinson officiating. Entombment will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery Mausoleum.
Friends may gather for visitation on Thursday, September 14 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

She lived by the motto “Save room for dessert”, which she applied to all aspects of her life. Words cannot begin to express how much she was loved and will be deeply missed.
