Disciplinary hearing for suspended Greenwood police officer rescheduled

The disciplinary hearing for a suspended Greenwood police officer will now take place two weeks earlier than planned.

Officer Sam Bowen’s disciplinary hearing will take place on Oct. 11 at 5 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Greenwood City Center, 300 S. Madison Avenue. It was previously set for Oct. 23, but was rescheduled for Oct. 11 due to it conflicting with a 6 p.m. meeting of the city’s Board of Zoning Appeals, which uses the same space, a city official said.

The Greenwood Police Merit Commission voted last Thursday to grant continuances for the disciplinary hearings for suspended for Bowen and an another suspended officer, Elijah Allen. Both hearings had initially been set for Sept. 20, however, attorneys for both Bowen and Allen had requested continuances because of scheduling conflicts.

Allen’s rescheduled hearing remains on Oct. 30. It will take place at 5 p.m. at the Greenwood City Center.
