The Greenwood Fire Department will be holding a “push-in” ceremony for a new fire engine next week.
GFD will be putting into service a new fire engine, Engine 94. To celebrate, the department will hold a push-in ceremony at 2 p.m. Sept. 25 at Station 94, 755 N. Graham Road, Greenwood.
Members of the public are invited to attend the ceremony, according to the Greenwood Fire Department.
Push-in ceremonies are based on the idea that it takes a community to support a fire department. The ceremony celebrates a fire service tradition from the time before gas-powered engines when horse-drawn engines had to be backed or “pushed” in the firehouse bay for the return to service, the department says.
