Senior scam and fraud prevention class set for Sept. 27

Local residents can learn more about senior scams and how to prevent them at a training next week.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana Attorney General’s Office will be hosting a Senior Scam and Fraud Education class from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 27 at the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Training Center, 1091 Hospital Road, Franklin. The training follows a rise in scam reports at the local, state and national level both offices have seen, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

This presentation is directed towards representatives from organizations and facilities that cater to seniors. Information will be provided for attendees to take back to their facilities to share with their communities and prevent future victimization, according to the news release.

Deputies will share information about current trends they are seeing in scams and fraud. Kim Harris, a representative of the attorney general’s office, will share tips on how to spot and avoid scams, along with what to do if someone falls victim to a scam, the news release says.

Those interested in attending need to RSVP by emailing Maj. Damian Katt, Investigations Division Commander, at [email protected] or by calling 317-346-4604.
