A slow start doomed Roncalli on Friday night in a 39-23 home loss against Circle City Conference rival Brebeuf Jesuit.
The Class 4A No. 8 Royals (3-3, 1-2) fell behind 15-0 in the first quarter and trailed 32-7 after three before picking up some points late. Brebeuf quarterback Maverick Geske torched the home team for 433 yards passing and five touchdowns, two of those to Taylor Clark (11 catches, 167 yards).
Roncalli got 103 yards rushing from Zach Dozier, but all three of its touchdowns also came through the air. Collin Ash finished the night 19 of 33 passing for 247 yards, with more than half of those coming on long TD throws to J.J. Prendergast (80 yards) and Dozier. Dominic Morelli also got into the end zone for the Royals.
A.J. Richardson had nine tackles and Prendergast added seven to lead the defensive effort for Roncalli, which travels out of state next week to face Louisville Male.
