Four area colleges and universities will offer free applications this week for students interested in applying.
A total of 35 Indiana colleges are participating in this year’s Indiana College Application Week, which started Monday. During the week, students can apply to all participating colleges and universities for free. This annual effort encourages students to apply to Indiana colleges before early application deadlines, allowing students a greater chance of receiving institutionally-awarded financial aid, according to an Indiana Commission for Higher Education news release.
Local and area colleges participating include Franklin College, Indiana University Indianapolis, Ivy Tech Community College and the University of Indianapolis, the news release says. Waived fees are applied to institutions’ applications only, and are not available through the Common App.
College Application Week is part of Learn More Indiana’s annual College GO! initiative that takes place each August through November with information and resources designed to help Hoosier K-12 students explore and plan for education beyond high school. The week is sponsored in partnership by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and the American College Application Campaign (ACAC) to increase the number of first-generation and low-income students who pursue education beyond high school, according to the news release.
The official kick-off to College GO! is the last full week in September, coinciding with College Application Week. Friday is #WhyApply Day, a social media campaign encouraging the public to share why it’s important to apply to college, the news release says.
