WHITELAND
Molly Metzger Smith passed away at the age of 58 on Monday, September 18, 2023, at her home in Whiteland, Indiana. She was born on May 13, 1965, in Toledo, OH, and adopted by Edward and Marjorie Metzger. She grew up in Wauseon, OH, and moved to Whiteland in 1992, where she lived for 31 years.
She is survived by her sister, Katy Crowley of Fishers, IN; her two brothers: Mike Metzger of Cleveland, OH, and Dave Metzger of Atlanta, GA; and two children: Zachary Smith of Whiteland, IN, and Dane Smith of Whiteland, IN. Those who knew her, whether they were listed above or not, will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Harris Jay Smith.
Molly was a 1983 graduate of Wauseon High School and a 1989 graduate of Defiance University, where she earned a degree in Communications. Molly served her community as a Greenwood Police officer for eight years, serving on a U.S. Marshall Task Force for a year and as a detective for three years at the end of her time with the Greenwood Police.
Molly was an avid gardener who immensely enjoyed the summer months when she could spend time in the garden with her family and pets. During the colder months of the year, nobody was more excited for the holiday season. Molly especially loved to tend to her fireplace while reading a book or decorating her home with her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
A memorial service for Molly will take place at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Jessen Funeral Home & Simple Cremation ~ Whiteland Chapel. Friends may come for a time of visitation from 11:00am to 1:00pm before the service. The service will be closed to only family. She will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, IN, on the same day.
