FRANKLIN
William R. “Ron” Ellis, 77, passed away on Monday evening, September 25, 2023 at his residence in Franklin.
He was born on July 18, 1946 in Blytheville, Arkansas to William and Bobbie (Rhodes) Ellis. He married Carolyn Sue Taylor on June 18, 1970. She preceded him in passing in 2004. He later married Nancy Lynn (Taylor) Brewer who lovingly survives as well as step-son, Will Brewer of Franklin, Indiana. He is also survived by son, Brian Ellis and his wife Karen Ellis, and granddaughter, Mattie Kate Ellis of Greensboro, NC.
Ron received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Arkansas State University at Jonesboro, AR in May, 1968. He received his Master’s Degree in Christian Education from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary at Louisville, Kentucky in May, 1972.
Ron was a veteran of the United States Army commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in May, 1968. He attended officer courses at the Army Signal School at Fort Gordon, Georgia. He served as a Battalion Communications Officer with Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 17th Artillery, Republic of South Korea. Ron also served at the Battalion Intelligence Officer, Headquarters Company, 197th Support Battalion in Fort Benning, Georgia.
Ron served Baptist Churches for twenty-one years as a Minister of Chrisitan Education and Administration. He also served as Pastor at Amity Baptist Church of Franklin for fourteen years. Ron was a Hospice Chaplain for Seasons Hospice of Indianapolis and later served Shiloh Community Church of Franklin as Pastor from 2013 until his retirement in May of 2021.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Shiloh Community Church, 5117 E. Greensburg Road in Franklin. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
