Grant William Stapleton, aged 26, of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away on September 18, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. Grant was born on January 30, 1997, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to his parents, Beth (Pezzullo) Stapleton and William “Ray” Stapleton.
Grant’s unwavering dedication and relentless work ethic were evident throughout his life. His passion for athletics was unmatched, and he poured his heart and soul into his track career. For 11 remarkable years, Grant excelled as a determined and hardworking athlete, becoming a source of inspiration to his peers and coaches. He proudly earned the title of State Final Medalist in the 800M dash during his time at Center Grove High School, showcasing his remarkable talent and unwavering drive. Grant continued his education at Xavier University, where he proudly represented his alma mater as a four-time letter winner for Track and Field. His relentless pursuit of greatness earned him the distinction of being a Big East finalist and medal winner.
During his time at Xavier University, Grant met his loving wife, Illiana “Illy” Harris. The couple married on June 25, 2022. Grant was a homebody who loved spending time with his wife and pets, his dog, Moose, and his cat, Ellie.
Grant worked as a software engineer for Vergence Group, where he utilized his exceptional coding skills to serve organizations of great importance, including the Department of Defense and Indiana University Health. Grant’s contributions to the field were highly regarded, and his expertise left an indelible impact on those he worked with.
Beyond his achievements, Grant possessed a kind and compassionate nature. He cherished his friendships, offering unwavering support and love to those closest to him. Grant loved horror movies and sports, especially Xavier Basketball, Cincinnati Reds and the Indianapolis Colts and Pacers. He listened to music constantly, and enjoyed going to concerts often.
Grant will be lovingly remembered by his adoring wife, Illiana “Illy,” his loving parents, Beth and William “Ray” Stapleton, his brother, Conner Stapleton and his partner, Hannah Scheller, Grandmother, Phyllis Pezzullo (Cooper). He was preceded in death by his beloved grandfather, Joseph Pezzullo Jr., Grandparents, Raymond, and Betty Stapleton. Grant’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of his caring Aunt, Tina Reynolds and Great Aunts, Patsy Thompson, Rosemary Horsley, Diana Green, and his devoted Uncle, Joe Pezzullo III.
Friends and loved ones are invited to join Grant’s family as they celebrate his life at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service &Crematory Greenwood Chapel 481 W. Main Street in Greenwood, IN on Sunday, October 1st. Celebration of Life will begin at 12:00pm with a gathering immediately following the service until 4:00pm.
In honor of Grant’s memory, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Community Health Network Foundation, specifically designated to support cancer care.
