GCA football routs Clarksville for fourth win

For the first time this season, Greenwood Christian is on the preferred side of .500.

The Cougars improved to 4-3 with Friday night’s 49-14 victory at Clarksville, a game that saw sophomore running back Nathan Goins rush for 217 yards and four touchdowns on only eight carries.

GCA soph quarterback Trey Dobson tossed three touchdown passes, including one to Zach Haynes, who led the team in receiving with four catches for 68 yards.

“We felt like we had the upper hand in our skill versus their skill,” Greenwood Christian Andre Dobson said. “One thing we’ve been trying to work on is our execution, especially offensively, and we felt we did that tonight.

“The offensive line really did a great job allowing Trey the time to execute and throw his passes. We didn’t need Trey to run much because Nathan was on fire.”

GCA jumped to a 21-6 lead through the first quarter, extended it to 28-6 at the half and essentially coasted from there. The Cougars finished with 445 total yards, with 337 coming via the ground game.

Next up for Greenwood Christian is a home game Friday night against Fort Wayne Blackhawk at Center Grove Middle School North.

“I’m excited for the team, and the direction we’re headed,” Dobson said.
