ICMS boys win state cross country title

Indian Creek’s boys cross country team took first place in the small school division at the Indiana Middle School Championships this past weekend at the Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute. The Braves finished with 87 points, easily outpacing runner-up East Tipp of Lafayette (191).

Isaac Smith was the top individual finisher for Creek on the 3-kilometer course, hitting the finish line ninth with a time of 10:06.7. Hank Seitzinger was 16th in 10:15.7, followed by Bo Jackson (22nd in 10:24.9), Atticus Smith (30th in 10:31.3) and Jonah Skinner (39th in 10:37.7).

Ella Neibert competed as an individual in the girls race for the Braves, placing 18th in 11:27.3.

Indian Creek coach Christie Smith noted that the team had never competed at the state meet before due to a scheduling conflict with the Western Indiana Conference meet, but she and the runners decided that this year’s team was good enough to forgo the conference meet and compete at Lavern Gibson.

As the state meet approached, Smith said, she started to realize the Braves had a good chance to win.

Greenwood Christian’s boys were 14th in the small school division, led by a 13th-place individual effort from Griffin Carney; the Cougars were 49th in the girls race.

In the large school boys race, Clark Pleasant’s Colton Watson was the individual runner-up with a time of 9:30.7. The Warriors were 20th as a team, sandwiched between Franklin (18th) and Center Grove Middle School Central (28th). On the girls side, Center Grove was 14th, Clark Pleasant 20th and Franklin 22nd.
