Indian Creek football wins at Sullivan

Turns out the third trip south was the charm for Indian Creek.

The Braves won at Sullivan, 21-7, on Friday night to improve to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the Western Indiana Conference standings.

Indian Creek’s first score came on senior quarterback Jalen Sauer’s 14-yard touchdown pass to Malachi Mink with five minutes remaining in the second quarter. Mink made it a 14-0 game on a 1-yard touchdown run late in the second.

“Our defense played an unbelievable game. They bailed our offense out all game,” Braves’ coach Casey Gillin said. “Our defensive staff has gotten that group better every single week. Our up-front guys and linebackers were stopping the run and making (Sullivan) throw.”

A 9-yard touchdown pass for the Golden Arrows late in the third stanza made it a one-score game, but the Braves responded in the fourth when Mink got loose for a 75-yard scoring run.

“Malachi played both ways for us and made a lot of tackles,” Gillin said. “He’s really coming on for us.”

Indian Creek squads traveled to Sullivan in 2016 and 2021, losing by respective scores of 48-38 and 45-0.

The Braves wrap up the regular-season next Friday when they host Northview.
