Sheriff seeks tips after shots fired at White River Township trailer park

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after shots were fired at a White River Township trailer park.

At about 9:12 a.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to a report of shots fired at a lot located within the Winterbrook Mobile Home Community, 4377 W. County Line Road, Greenwood. Responding deputies found a vehicle that had been hit by bullets, and spoke with several neighbors who heard multiple gun shots in the area, according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Sheriff’s deputies say the victim of the incident was not “very forthcoming” with law enforcement and feared further retaliation from the suspect, or suspects, involved in the shooting. The sheriff’s office is working the case aggressively to find the suspects, the news release says.

The incident is believed to have started in Marion County before filtering into Johnson County. Incidents like this are unacceptable in any situation, Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess said in the news release.

“Gun violence was used this morning in an attempt to intimidate the victim. Multiple rounds were fired and struck the victim’s vehicle,” Burgess said. “We also must remember that there are several kids that live in the area and are on fall break currently.”

Investigators believe this was an isolated incident. Management at the mobile home community has been notified and is cooperating with the investigation. They are also concerned about the safety of residents within the community, the news release says.

Deputies were able to obtain video footage of a suspected vehicle that was involved, and are seeking the public’s help in finding it. The sheriff’s office is looking for a charcoal gray Ford F-150 truck with an Indiana interim plate, or paper plate, S115305, according to the news release.
