Shepherd resumes Q School journey

Center Grove and Duke graduate Erica Shepherd shot a 2-over-par 74 in her first round at the LPGA and Epson Tour Qualifying Tournament Stage II, which began Tuesday at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Florida. Shepherd started her day with bogeys on the 10th and 13th holes. She worked her way back to even par with birdies on the 18th and second holes before bogeying the fifth and sixth.

The top 40 players and ties at week’s end will advance to the Q-Series Qualifying Tournament, which begins Nov. 30 in Mobile, Alabama. Shepherd is tied for 92nd in the 188-player field after one round but just two strokes out of a top-40 spot.

Volleyball defeated in four sets

Despite 14 kills apiece from Miranda Wilson and Hope Moring, Franklin College suffered a 19-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-20 setback to Manchester on Tuesday. Moring added a team-best 17 digs for the Grizzlies (7-14, 1-3 HCAC), while Campbell Clark added 15.
