Alma Jean (Hutchison) Elliott was promoted to heaven on October 17, 2023, at her home at Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife Community in Franklin, IN.

Alma Jean was born on October 31, 1932, in Olney, IL to Eugene and Alma Mahala (Estes) Hutchison and was raised in Golden Gate, IL.

She graduated from Fairfield Community High School in Fairfield, IL in 1950.

Alma Jean married Melvin N. Elliott of Fairfield, IL on June 10, 1950, in Fairfield, IL. He preceded her in death on May 8, 2015.

In 1966, Melvin and Alma Jean moved their family to Indianapolis to pursue an advancement in Melvin’s career.

Alma Jean retired from the Marion County Health Department in Indianapolis, IN at the age of 65.

She was a member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, IN and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Bridgeport Masonic Lodge in Indianapolis.

Alma Jean had a beautiful voice and in years past, was a soloist singing at weddings and funerals. She also enjoyed singing in her church choir. She held offices in the United Methodist Women’s Society as well as the Eastern Star. Alma Jean was a joy to be around. She and Melvin had many great friendships and enjoyed traveling and camping.

Alma Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Melvin after 64 years and 11 months of marriage, and brothers Eugene Hutchison and John Hutchison.

Alma Jean is survived by her Daughter Cheryl Schwitz (Alan Jr.) of Bargersville, IN and son Jeffrey Elliott (Beverly) of New Palestine, IN, her grandchildren Alan Schwitz III (Michele Johnson), Paul Elliott (Jessica), Heather Elliott and Matthew Dakota Elliott, her great-granddaughters Jacy Elliott and Lily Elliott and sister-in-law Shirley Ann Elliott.

Chaplain Deb Baker will conduct a service on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 1PM at the Wright Chapel at Otterbein Franklin Senior Life Community, 1070 West Jefferson Street, Franklin, IN where friends may call from 11AM until service time at the chapel. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN.
