GREENWOOD
Beverly Anne (Cade) Ernest, age 75, of Greenwood, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Demaree Crossing Senior Living.
Beverly was born in Madison, IN, on June 19, 1948, to the late John William Cade and Wilma Juanita (Kellems) Cade. She graduated in 1966 from Madison Consolidated High School. She met her husband, Stephen Ernest, while attending Indiana University. They were married on December 27, 1969, and celebrated 37 years of marriage before his death on February 17, 2007.
She was a real estate broker and Assistant Manager with A.H.M. Graves in Greenwood for nearly 10 years before taking a position in the Office of External Affairs at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) in 1988. After 20 years in various departments and schools at IUPUI, she retired as the Chief Financial Officer of The Center on Philanthropy at IUPUI in 2009.
Bev was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority and the Johnson County Chapter of the IU Alumni Association. She and Steve were among several founding families of the Center Grove Choir Parent Organization, in support of their daughter, Angie’s, show choir involvement. Bev and her family attended First Baptist Church of Greenwood for many years, and then later the former Center Grove Presbyterian Church. Her sorority dedication extended to serving as the Chapter Advisor to the Beta Phi Chapter of AOII at Indiana University, of which she herself was an alumna, and founding the Johnson County chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi Alumnae Association. She also served as the Treasurer for the Greater Johnson County Panhellenic Alumnae Association and as President of the Johnson County IUAA chapter from 2006-2012. In her retirement, Bev participated in the Leadership Johnson County program, later becoming an alumni volunteer.
Survivors include her daughter, Angie (Mike) Thompson; granddaughter, Chelsea (Brandon) Stuck; grandson, Noah Thompson; and great-grandson, Jaxen Stuck. Also surviving are her brother, J. Kevin (Ronda) Cade; two brothers-in-law, Gregg Ernest and Tim (Cindi) Ernest; one nephew, J. Kyle (Amy) Cade; one niece, Abby (Corey) Ernest-Norman; and several cousins.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, her husband, Stephen Ernest, her in-laws, Dale A. and Doris M. (Halbgewoks) Ernest, and many aunts and uncles from the Cade and Kellems families.
All services will be private.
