D.E. “Gene” Davis

INDIANAPOLIS

89, of Indianapolis, passed away on October 8, 2023. He was born In Mitchell, IN, to the late Harley and Maudie (Pittman) Davis. Gene married Karen Martinson. He started working as a draftsman at Midwest Tank and Mfg. and worked his way up to chief engineer and top salesman and then bought the company and became the president. Upon selling the company, he became a real estate developer in Franklin, IN. In 1991, he developed Golfview Villas and Fairway Lakes and built several homes in these developments. Always into preserving historical sites, in 1992 he purchased the old Franklin Carnegie Library built in 1913 and converted it into 5 condos preserving the interior beautiful wood and huge stained-glass window.

Always wanting to utilize his carpentry skills, he then began buying old, dilapidated houses, renovating and then selling them to first time home owners bringing smiles to their faces as they now owned their first home. He renovated about 40 homes in Indianapolis. Gene enjoyed playing the trombone, singing in the Chordlighter Barbershop Chorus, golf and traveling internationally.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, November 19, 2023 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 6111 Shelby St., Indianapolis at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and/or to the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN.
