Franklin College

Men’s XC third in HCAC, women fifth

Top-10 finishes from John Asplund (sixth) and Jack Sells (10th) helped Franklin College take third place as a team during the HCAC Championships on Saturday. Wyatt McCullough was 12th and Samuel Wilson 13th for the Grizzlies, who totaled 63 points to end up behind Manchester (44) and Rose-Hulman (51).

The Franklin women placed fifth with 119 points, led by a ninth-place finish from Haley Makowski and an 18th-place effort from Ella Bashor.

Volleyball prevails in five sets

Franklin College had to go the distance to pull out a 25-10, 24-26, 26-24, 23-25, 15-13 home win over Defiance on Saturday afternoon. Miranda Wilson had 17 kills and four service aces to lead the Grizzlies (8-16, 2-5 HCAC), who got 12 kills each from Kaitlyn Lavy and Hope Moring as well as 10 kills and five blocks from Alyssa Zemlyak. Brionna Linkel had a career-best 35 assists and Campbell Clark pulled up 20 digs.
