UPDATE: Police catch escapee from Edinburgh Correctional Facility

UPDATE 3:58 P.M. 

The man who walked away from the Edinburgh Correctional Facility earlier on Monday has been found in Indianapolis.

Marion Jaynes was taken into custody by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department shortly before 3:30 p.m. Monday, according to an Indiana Department of Correction update.

The Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office will decide if any additional charges will be brought, the news release says.

UPDATE 2:17 P.M. 

Law enforcement are searching for a person who escaped from the Edinburgh Correctional Facility.

Marion F. Jaynes, 55, who is serving a 20-year sentence for burglary, walked away from a work crew at the Edinburgh Correctional Facility. The facility is a minimum security facility located on the grounds of Camp Atterbury with work crews that work in multiple areas.

Jaynes was last seen driving a 2006 blue Dodge Dakota, with license plate TK699MLU just before 11 a.m. Monday near Harding and Lambert streets in Indianapolis, according to an Indiana Department of Correction news release.

Jaynes has a lengthy criminal history, with convictions going as far back as 1991. Among the charges are multiple counts of resisting law enforcement and burglary, according to online records from the IDOC.

His inmate number is 912328. The IDOC is being assisted by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin Police, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Mooresville Police Department and Indiana State Police, the news release says.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is assisting IDOC with any help they need, Sheriff Duane Burgess said. Some area schools including Franklin Community Schools were placed on lockdown because of the search.

If anyone sees Jaynes or the vehicle, they should not attempt to make contact. They should contact the police immediately, officials said.
