Custer Baker employee removed from campus after physical altercation with student

A Franklin classroom assistant was removed from campus Friday after the person allegedly had a physical altercation with a student.

News of the incident was sent to parents Friday afternoon in a message from Custer Baker Intermediate School Principal Cheryl Moran that was shared on social media.

Moran said the incident was a physical altercation between the instructional assistant and a student and didn’t provide further details on what happened in the email. Franklin Community Schools spokesperson Robin Betts said the school couldn’t go into more detail at this time.

The email said the employee was removed from Custer Baker indefinitely. School officials have turned over the investigation to Franklin Police, the message says.

Franklin Police Chief Kirby Cochran said he could not comment more at this time as the incident is under investigation.

The message from Moran said the school district could not share details on an internal disciplinary action, but said, “[w]hat we can share is we take this situation very seriously and will move forward in accordance with school district policy.”

She further said parents would reach her with concerns or questions.

The Daily Journal will share more information on the incident when it is available.
