Johnson County Bicentennial Ball cancelled

What would have been the final event in Johnson County’s bicentennial year had been canceled.

Organizers for the Bicentennial Ball, scheduled for Friday, have decided not to move forward with the gala. There was not enough interest or ticket sales to hold the event, said David Pfeiffer, chair of the bicentennial committee.

The ball was set to be held Friday at the Barn at Bay Horse Inn, featuring appetizers, live music, dancing and a historic sense of nostalgia. It would have put a bow on the county’s bicentennial year, which included a kick-off event in March, a museum exhibition looking at county history, and historical reenactors, demonstrations and a parade as part of Franklin’s Fall Festival in September.

Past historic celebrations featured gala balls, such as the county’s sesquicentennial. This was a way to recognize those traditions.
