Custer Baker employee won’t be charged following incident

No charges will be filed after a Franklin classroom assistant had a physical altercation with a student earlier this month.

The employee was removed from the Custer Baker Intermediate School campus on Nov. 3 following the incident and was terminated the same day.

News of the incident was sent to parents that afternoon in a message from Custer Baker Principal Cheryl Moran. She said the incident was a physical altercation between the instructional assistant and a student and didn’t provide further details on what happened in the email.

The Franklin Police Department investigated the incident at the request of Franklin schools, but the student’s parents ultimately decided not to file charges, said Kirby Cochran, police chief.

Franklin Community Schools spokesperson Robin Betts said the school couldn’t go into more detail on the incident out of respect for the student and the former employee.

The personnel report on the consent agenda for Monday evening’s school board meeting described the employee as an “alternative education assistant” at Custer Baker.
