Here’s what’s going on with I-69 the week of Nov 20

Work on the Interstate 69 Finish Line project will soon wrap up for the year.

On Friday, Indiana Department of Transportation Commissioner Mike Smith was joined by the I-69 Finish Line project team and federal, state and local officials to officially open the Smith Valley Road interchange. The southbound entrance and exit ramps opened in August and the northbound ramps opened last week, according to an INDOT project update.

Additionally, the last of 14 traffic signals along the I-69 Finish Line corridor was removed last Thursday at Fairview Road. The removal allows for free flow conditions from Evansville to just south of Interstate 465 in Indianapolis, INDOT officials say.

This week, crews are applying the finishing touches on State Road 144 and Smith Valley Road. Motorists should expect slight delays as crews apply permanent striping, according to INDOT.

In Marion County, progress is continuing near Southport Road as construction crews have installed noise barrier panels near Southern Dunes and have laid crushed stone to prepare for paving.

Drivers should expect intermittent lane closures on east and westbound I-465 to move paving equipment this week. Additional lane closures for pavement striping are expected later this month, weather dependening, according to INDOT.

Officials also say drivers should also watch for flagging on Belmont Avenue as heavy-duty trucks move in and out to unload material.
