Bud and Bloom reopens under new ownership in Franklin

Bud and Bloom Florist, Boutique and Home celebrated a grand reopening celebration last week after nearly half a century in Franklin. The florist, which now operates under new ownership, aims to provide the community with the same services they have traditionally offered with a few added twists.

Delanie and Jasen Owen acquired the business from the Myrick family after they initially reached out to a broker that specialized in selling businesses. The couple received a phone call that led them to the purchase Bud and Bloom shortly after.

New owner and CEO Delanie Owen said that they have been looking to find a business that was family-owned and already established in the Franklin community.

“We really enjoy the small town feel and a community that comes together to support one another,” said Owen. “We love what Franklin has done with all of the updates and we really enjoy coming to downtown Franklin.”

In addition to offering staples like flower arrangements, wreaths, wood products and sympathy merchandise, Owen has established a goal to incorporate the family’s varied interests and skillsets into a boutique-style setting.

Delanie’s mother owned a craft store, her daughters are interested in fashion and design and Jasen’s family has owned a greenhouse in Connersville for over 45 years. His father grew the mums that were sold at Sam’s Club.

“He was one of the largest growers of mums in the country,” Delanie Owen said. “He was the largest Irish grower in the country. We wanted to incorporate the greenhouse and my interior design. I wanted my mom to have a place to display all of her items after retirement because she is extremely talented.

“We have combined all of our talents into one space.”

The store now also features a home décor area, window boxes, interior design consultations, a clothing and style area, purses, baby items, gifts and a seasonal section. A mug-and-go wall centers the room where consumers can choose a mug and fill it with flowers as a gift.

The Owen family, consisting of seven kids, dedicate themselves to the success of the shop. They opened an online division of Bud and Bloom’s boutique as well at budandbloomboutiqueshop.com/

Franklin officials and fans of the store gather from the grand reopening and shared what they treasure about the store.

“I have bought a lot of flowers here and I will buy a lot of flowers here,” said Mayor Steve Barnett. “I have been married for 42 years and every flower I have bought for my wife has come from Bud and Bloom. This is what makes Franklin Franklin.”

Bud and Bloom also provides all of the ribbons for the Franklin Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cuttings, said Executive Director Rosie Chambers.

Bud and Bloom currently has 12 employees and they are looking to hire a few more part-time workers for jobs such as delivery and marketing.

They are open Monday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The business is closed on Sunday.
